ORIENTAL PROFILE

If you're wondering about Oriental Shorthairs, they've been called "Siamese in designer genes". The original Oriental Shorthairs were created by breeding American and British Shorthairs & Abyssinians with Siamese in order to get a multitude of coat colors on a Siamese-type body.

They have been bred in Britain since 1950 and the first ones were brought to the USA in 1968. They did not get accepted for registration in the CFA until 1972!

The Oriental Shorthair is characterized by a long, tapering wedge-shaped head, large, flaring ears that continue along the lines of the wedge, almond-shaped eyes and a long, flat profile (bumpy noses need not apply!). Their bodies are long and tubular; muscular but fine-boned. A long, whip-like tail and small dainty paws complete the picture.

Orientals have wonderful loving personalities and are close to their people. They have an excellent sense of humor and have lots of energy. They are easily trained and love any opportunity to show off. Just ask anyone who's owned by one!
